Man charged with stirring up racial hatred online after week of riots

Jordan Parlour, 28, is alleged to have used ‘threatening words or behaviour’ on Facebook

A man has been charged with intending to stir up racial hatred, over alleged posts on Facebook, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.
Jordan Parlour, from Seacroft in Leeds, is the first person to face prosecution for posting allegedly criminal messages linked to the riots.
Around 400 people gathered in Leeds City Centre on Saturday. One arrest was made, according to West Yorkshire Police.
Nick Price, the director of legal services, said: “We have authorised West Yorkshire Police to charge Jordan Parlour, 28, with using threatening words or behaviour intending to stir up racial hatred.
“The charge relates to alleged Facebook posts between Aug 1 and Aug 5 in connection with the violent public disorder across the UK. 
“It is extremely important there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
Parlour has been charged with “threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour intending thereby to stir up racial hatred, or where having regard to all the circumstances, racial hatred is likely to be stirred up thereby”, the CPS said in a statement on Tuesday.
He will appear at Leeds magistrates’ court on Tuesday.
On Monday, the unrest entered its seventh day with gatherings in Plymouth, Birmingham, Belfast and Darlington.
In the past week, there have been incidents in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Belfast, Stoke-on-Trent, Hull, Bristol, Southport and Rotherham.
The violence broke out after a knife attack which left three young girls dead and others injured in Southport last Monday.
Axel Muganwa Rudakubana has been charged with three counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder.
In the disorder that has followed, more than 420 people have been arrested, police officers have been injured, and mosques have been targeted.
